About the authors
Jacob Gersen

Professor Jacob Gersen is Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, Affiliate Professor in the Department of Government, and the Founder and Director of the Food Law Lab at the Petrie-Flom Center. The Food Law Lab supports academic research on the legal treatment of food in society. He is also the co-editor of Food Law & Policy, a new casebook to be published by Wolters Kluwer. Professor Gersen is currently working on a book titled From Court To Table about the relationship between law and food. Before joining the Harvard faculty in 2011, he was Professor of Law at the University of Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a J.D. from the University of Chicago, and an A.B. in Public Policy from Brown University. His main areas of research and teaching are administrative law, food law, environmental law, torts, and constitutional theory. In addition to publications in law reviews and political science journals, his work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, and his occasional blog CourtToTable.org.

Margot J. Pollans

Margot J. Pollans is an Associate Professor of Law at the Pace University Elisabeth Haub School of Law. She teaches and writes at the intersections of food law and environmental law. She is the Faculty Director of the Pace-NRDC Food Law Initiative, whose mission is to expand access to legal services for the farmers, food entrepreneurs, and food advocates seeking to improve equity and sustainability in the food system. In 2017, she was selected as one of the “40 Under 40 rising stars in New York City food policy” by the Hunter College York City Food Policy Center. Prior to joining the Pace faculty in 2015, she was an academic fellow with the Resnick Program for Food Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law. She also served for two years as a clinical teaching fellow at Georgetown University Law Center and for one year as a law clerk to the Honorable David S. Tatel on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She received an L.L.M. from Georgetown University Law Center, a J.D. from New York University School of Law, and a B.A. from Columbia University.

Michael T. Roberts

Michael T. Roberts is the founding Executive Director of the Resnick Program for Food Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law. He has long been actively involved in the development of food law worldwide. He has authored the first major treatise on food law, titled Food Law in the United States (Cambridge University Press 2016). He is a Research Fellow for Renmin University School of Law’s Center for Coordination and Innovation for Food Safety and an Adjunct Professor of Law for East China University of Science and Technology (Shanghai). He also lectures frequently in Italy and is involved with the University of Tuscia, European Food Law Center (Viterbo, Italy). He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Michigan State University, where he teaches a distant education course on China food law. He was formerly with the University of Arkansas School of Law as a Research Professor of Law and as the Director of the National Agricultural Law Center, where he helped establish the law school's Journal of Food Law and Policy. He has practiced food law, as the former first chair of the Lex Mundi (world’s largest association of private law firms) international Agribusiness practice group and as of counsel in Washington D.C. with Venable LLP. He was also a visiting scholar and consultant to the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
