Clearing the Last Hurdle: Mapping Success on the Bar Exam, Fourth Edition
Wanda M. Temm
Paperback ISBN: 9798889064541

Clearing the Last Hurdle: Mapping Success on the Bar Exam by Wanda M. Temm is designed as a comprehensive textbook for a for-credit bar preparation course. This all-inclusive textbook includes substantive outlines on all Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) topics and all Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) topics and is also easily adaptable for state-specific jurisdictions. Clearing the Last Hurdle focuses on guiding a law student in understanding the tasks involved in bar preparation; giving the student specific suggestions on how to study; and providing sufficient practice questions to improve the student’s skills in answering MBE, essay, and performance test questions. In addition, it emphasizes using mind maps, which allow a student to make the necessary associations between concepts for better memory retention and recall, to order thinking about each topic. The book includes practice questions in all three formats—multiple choice, essay, and performance tests—with score sheets to more specifically guide students in how to review their practice answers. The teacher’s manual includes student sample answers with score sheets to assist professors in understanding how to assess a bar exam essay.

Ultimate Guide to the UBE (Uniform Bar Exam) Redesigned, Second Edition
Melissa Hale, Antonia Miceli, Tania N. Shah
Paperback ISBN: 9781543856378

In the past decade the UBE has gone from being adopted by merely a few jurisdictions to over 40, including Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and Texas, and soon Pennsylvania in July of 2022. This encompasses a large percentage of students taking the Bar Exam. It also means that many students, as well as bar prep professionals, have questions about the UBE. We seek to provide one guide that addresses everything anyone would want to know about the UBE, most importantly, how to prepare for it.

Antonia Miceli
Program Director and Professor of Practice
Arizona State University

Toni Miceli joined the ASU College of Law faculty in August 2024 and serves as the inaugural Director of the Bar Exam Success Program. Previously, she served on the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Law for 13 years, where she also served as the Director of Academic and Bar Exam Success.

Prof. Miceli is passionate about developing the next generation of attorneys through innovative and effective teaching methods, curriculum design, and assessment strategies. In creating robust academic and bar exam success programs, she focuses on creating self-regulated learners and developing the skills necessary for students to succeed in law school, on the bar exam, and in practice.

Prof. Miceli is a leading expert on the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) and NextGen Bar Exam, as well as integrating bar exam and practice-ready skills throughout the curriculum. Her book, The Ultimate Guide to the UBE, has been widely adopted by law schools. In 2023, Prof. Miceli worked with Prof. Ann Scarlett (SLU Law) on creating a series of Civil Procedure Modules for the AccessLex Building Bar Skills Initiative, which provides Civil Procedure faculty with a series of five modules to integrate NextGen Bar skills into their courses and provide students with a hands-on opportunity to gain context for this challenging 1L subject. Most recently, Prof. Miceli was invited to work on a second generation module building team, this time creating a multi-subject module to integrate NextGen Bar skills into upper-level courses.

A 2023 recipient of the AccessLex Barriers and Interventions Grant, Prof. Miceli has a strong passion for academic excellence and intellectual inquiry that draws on her experience in cross-disciplinary research and collaboration. As a trained epidemiologist, Prof. Miceli is unfailingly logical, data driven, and an empirical thinker. She applies her data-driven and student-focused lens to all her programming and curricular development, working to create more access for diverse students to enter the legal academy and practice of law.

Her current scholarship focuses on empowering neurodivergent law students and breaking down adversarial state bar examiner accommodation policies so the legal profession can embrace, rather than lose, this talented pool of new talent. Prof. Miceli is a past President of the Association of Academic Support Educators and serves on several national legal working groups, advisory committees, and boards.
