Mary Basick
Assistant Dean for Academic Skills
University of California, Irvine

Mary Basick is the Assistant Dean of Academic Skills at UC Irvine Law School. She has successfully designed programs, developed innovative and engaging curricula, and taught courses in academic skills and bar preparation for over twenty years. Dean Basick utilizes best practices, statistical data, effective teaching pedagogy, and cognitive learning theory to develop and implement programming, resulting in historic bar passage success at several law schools. Dean Basick has coauthored popular best-selling books on bar preparation, consults and provides expert commentary on the bar exam and preparation, and is a member of the California State Bar Law School Council. She received the 2025 Impact Award from the Association of Academic Success Educators for her bar exam advocacy.

Tina Schindler
Associate Director of Academic Skills
University of California, Irvine

Professor Schindler is the Associate Director of Academic Skills at University of California, Irvine School of Law. For almost two decades, she has designed academic and bar exam support programs at a variety of schools, created innovative curricula, directed bar preparation programs and pre-admission law school programs, taught courses and workshops in all California bar tested subjects, and published books that enable students to pass both the essay and performance test portion of the California Bar Exam.

She co-authored (with Mary Basick) a popular and highly rated bar preparation book, Essay Exam Writing for the California Bar Exam, which is in its third edition. She also co-authored (with Mary Basick) the book, California Performance Test Workbook: Preparation for the Bar Exam, in its second edition. Her work was also published in the book, Your Guide to Taking the Bar (Again).

Professor Schindler has also taught doctrinal classes in the areas of Civil Procedure, Professional Responsibility, and Remedies. Professor Schindler’s experiences also involve grading and lecturing for several bar preparation companies, serving on several committees related to bar passage, and presenting on bar exam topics at national conferences. With a Microbiology undergraduate major, she also successfully sat for the patent bar exam and worked on patent applications in her early career years.
