About the authors
David Buchbinder

Mr. Buchbinder is a member of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California Bars. He received his J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. Prior to 1995, Mr. Buchbinder practiced in San Diego, California, representing debtors and creditors, and serving as a Trustee and Examiner in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases. He has also served as a legal services attorney in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He has spoken frequently on Bankruptcy and Consumer Law subjects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and California. He is a regular faculty member of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.

The groups he has spoken before include Legal Services of New Jersey, the Eastern District Bankruptcy Conference, New Jersey State Bar Association, PBI, Delaware State Bar Association, Camden County Bar, San Diego County Bar, and the Central California Bankruptcy Conference. He is the author of Basic Bankruptcy for Paralegals, published by Aspen Publishing Company. He is a member of the Eastern District Bankruptcy Conference and the Delaware Bankruptcy Inn of Court. In March 2004, he received an Equal Justice Medal from Legal Services of New Jersey and the New Jersey State Bar for his pro bono contributions in providing training to Legal Services attorneys. Mr. Buchbinder served for more than 21 years as a Trial Attorney for the United States Trustee Program in Wilmington, Delaware.

Robert J. Cooper

Robert J. Cooper, Esq. is a graduate of Rutgers University, School of Law, Camden, New Jersey, where he has been an adjunct Professor of Law for over 27 years. He teaches an advanced bankruptcy workshop focusing on actual bankruptcy practice and courtroom procedures. He is also the co-author of the Basic Bankruptcy for Paralegals textbook. Robert retired from government service after almost 30 years working for the federal courts and the military. In 2021, he became the Bankruptcy Law Coordinator and SJLS Training Coordinator for South Jersey Legal Services, Inc. He is a founding member of the South Jersey Bankruptcy Practitioners’ Group and regularly presents Continuing Legal Education seminars to attorneys.

He is a Master in the Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, and a volunteer for the Financial Literacy Project for the New Jersey Bankruptcy Lawyers Foundation and the Military Assistance Project. He is the training instructor for the Rutgers Law School Bankruptcy Projects in Camden and Newark, New Jersey. Rutgers Law School created the Robert J. Cooper Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project Excellence Award in recognition of his service in 2017. He is the recipient of various pro bono awards, as well as the Camden County Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Medal. Robert is admitted to practice before the New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Supreme Courts.
