About the authors
John J. Murray
Drake Law School

John J. Murray Jr. graduated from Drake Law School in 2004. He then served as a Captain in the Army JAG Corps, where he held numerous leadership positions including: Special Assistant United States Attorney in charge of prosecuting all civilian crimes on the military installation, Chief of the Litigation Division, and Military Magistrate Judge. John was also selected to be one of two Law Instructors at the United States Army Military Police School, where he lectured to law enforcement and servicemembers on criminal law, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

After leaving the military, John spent the next eleven years in private practice, focusing on civil litigation and criminal law. In 2020, he returned to his love of higher education by becoming the Paralegal Program Director and law instructor at Alvin Community College. While John still teaches and still leads the paralegal program, he has been promoted to Executive Director (Dean) of the Center of Excellence for Legal and Public Safety Programs. This division includes the following programs: paralegal, criminal justice, law enforcement academy, correctional officer training, mental health and addiction counseling, and emergency medical services.

John graduated as a top student in Pepperdine University’s LL.M program for dispute resolution, rated #1 in the country. John is also a bestselling and award-winning author. Better Than Our Dogs won the Grand Prize in the 2020 Christian Author Awards and rose to #2 on Amazon’s Bestseller List for Christian education behind only Max Lucado. His recent release, Man Na: A Daily Guide to Becoming the Salt God Intended, became a Bestseller in its first week and won First Place in the 2022 Christian Author Awards for best devotional.

John lives in Texas with his wife, Lana, and their dogs, Chloe and Maddie.
